Letter from the Editor: January 2016

Every year on January 1st, I listen to “This Will Be Our Year” by The Zombies about a dozen times. I’m not a musician, I can’t say exactly what about it resonates with me, but I think it’s the clarity. It’s a simple little, but there’s comfort and profoundness in what is simple.

The warmth of your smile, smile for me little one, and this will be our year, took a long time to come.

You don’t have to worry, all your worry days are gone, and this will be our year, took a long time come.

And of course this is just a silly wish. Of course your worried days will be ready and waiting for you at the beginning of year; these newly outstretched hands offering old problems. But it’s a good enough wish, isn’t it? We have had our turn at giving, and now it’s our time to take. Small, simple, wishful, yes. But isn’t it a good enough welcome to this arbitrary day we’ve chosen to signify transition?

So here’s to us both, to taking what we have earned.

We’ve got six books and counting. We’re branching into new bookstores. We’re adding new product lines. We’re hosting our 4th annual submission contest. We’re going to seek to improve in our customer service and the quality of design in our books. I’m excited for this year, I hope you’re excited too. Here’s to us all.
